More American Girl fun
In yesterday’s post I began detailing the birthday visit we made to the American Girl Place store on Michigan Avenue in Chicago. It’s a rather overwhelming store, but if you take into consideration the fact that to a little girl’s imagination…especially my little six year old, Grace…it’s a fantasy come true. It was the perfect place to have a Girl’s Day Out with my two young women. Jordan has a collection of AG dolls and although she is a teen now, she was willing to go along and enjoy the store, lunch, and have her doll’s hair rejuvenated. I’ve always appreciated the American Girl products because they are positive and age appropriate for young girls. This was our chance to indulge in something that Grace would enjoy for the day. Appropriate for her birthday I guess.
Next stop was the Cafe. It took the idea of a tea party and expanded on it quite a bit. We got on the wait list early that morning and were fortunate to be able to slip into an empty table. You can make reservations ahead of time on the American Girl website, but we weren’t sure how our week would happen so I took my chances and it worked out.
We were waitlisted until this crowd was seated at 12:30 pm. The cafe serves meals in sessions so each time period is seated together.
And then we were seated at an available table:
Warm cinnamon buns to welcome us.
First course of pretzel cheese rolls, veggies, fruit, and cheese.
Molly gets some also.
My summer salad:
Grace’s mini-picnic plate:
Jordan’s sundried tomato and whole wheat pasta:

Next we left the lunch table and headed over for our hair salon appointment. Grace’s doll before the makeover…yes, they have salon chairs for the dolls.
Molly “after” the new hairstyle:
Jordan’s doll afterwards:
Done!
And where were the guys in our family during this girlfest??? At the Lego store on Michigan Avenue! William declared the American Girl store ‘a boy’s nightmare!’

This looks like so much fun for the birthday girl! Thank goodness my kids are too young to read this blog – a department store dedicated to dolls AND a lego store nearby…that would bankrupt us for sure!
