DAVE RETURNED FROM A BUSINESS TRIP LAST THURSDAY. It was a trip to London, England. London is just an incredible city, but for us it holds special memories. In 1989 I lived and worked there as a single woman. It’s because of this that I adore London. So many great feelings when I think about my experiences there in the architectural world and also as a young woman exploring herĀ independenceĀ and confidence. Dave visited me toward the end of my stay there that summer and he, too, fell in love with the city. {Well, OK, he liked me a little to skip some academic finals and fly across the ocean to hold hands.} He visited for two weeks and enjoyed exploring all the history London had to offer.

When I heard that Dave had a conference in London this May, my heart skipped a beat. It was the end of school for our three kids though and so this was a trip that he needed to make on his own. He was sweet enough to revisit my old office place in Covent Garden and other haunts. Needless to say, he experienced London though a businessman’s eyes this time.

Dave was kind enough to bring back an enamelled sign, which is common in London as address plaques. I love it. Covent Garden was where I spent most of my days. It was my first international job. It was the theater district where I saw plays by canvassing the last minute ticket windows. It was “me” before any children, before marriage, and just before I graduated college. I love all of those things {children, marriage, and life} but what a glorious time of life that was in 1989.

Thanks to my husband for helping me remember that special time period with his present.
