Wordless Wednesday: Summer Favorite

IT’S RARE TO GET AN OUTING WITH ‘JUST MOM’ WHEN YOU ARE THE THIRD CHILD. Last Thursday I took Grace to see The Dragon King puppet show at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center presented by Tanglewood Marionettes. Each summer, for the past 14 years, Roswell’s “Puppet Lady” has brought first class productions to that facility for all to enjoy at a reasonable rate. Normally when I say puppet show, people giggle and think about something amateur…but this is a top of the line production. Each week one production makes repeated appearances Monday through Saturday at 10:00 am (On Wednesday and Friday there is a 1:00 pm show also.). It’s something we have attended for several years. We try to make as many of the weeks as possible because the shows are at a good price and well done. It’s a good place to practice being at a play or other activity with a toddler because there is an audience full of parents and little ones doing the same thing. Grace literally went to these shows from the time she was one because I was trying to expose William and Jordan to these experiences. Grace is now an expert.

After the show they let us tour backstage and explained how the marionette puppets worked:

One large puppet was the Dragon King character. At the end of the show it actually came out into the audience squirting water and dancing. Grace got to inspect it closer backstage in it’s travel box.

The Grandmother (walking version) and the Grandson were the main characters in the play and their movement was so realistic during the play.

Grace was thrilled to sit beside the PuppetMaster Peter Schaefer, and talk with him.

Afterwards we picked up the Take Home Puppet Kits which are a great way to extend the learning with a hands-on project.
